What to Consider When Moving Offices in Singapore

Finding the perfect space to set up your business is not an easy task. Perhaps your company has started to grow so you need to expand the workplace or the office you first chose is no longer appropriate. Whatever the case, moving office can be a difficult task but can be a lot less difficult when you hire professional help. You will need to do some careful planning and keep a few things in mind, so the team at Allied Singapore has come up with a ‘to do’ list to help you get started.

What’s Your Plan?

Before you start thinking about the ideal premises to take your business, you need to consider your current space. Make sure you review your tenancy agreement to check you’re not breaking your lease; or if you are, what if any financial penalty is involved. Check what your obligations are and whether you meet the criteria to have your security deposit returned to you. You might need to ensure the space is in its original condition, which means paying for any repairs and professional cleaning.

Give It Time

Ideally, you will want to start planning your office move at least 6 months in advance. During this time, you will need to research the area where you wish to relocate, estimate your space requirements and go for viewings. In some cases, you might want to engage the services of corporate fitout specialist. At this stage, you will have to set your relocation budget and calculate any additional costs, such as refitting, storage or new equipment and furniture.

Stay Connected

Once you have found the perfect space and signed a tenancy agreement, there will be plenty to do. If you wish to remain with your current communication service providers, they will need to be informed you are moving office. If you wish to change companies, check your contract and ensure you are no longer under obligation to remain a customer. If you end your contract early, you might have to pay penalty fees. Singapore Power (SP) and the Public Utilities Board will require you to notify them of the move so they can terminate the electrical and water supplies at your old location. You will then need to apply for the services to be reinstated at your new premises. This can be done using your existing account.

Make It Official

Your company will need to register the change of address with ACRA within 14 days of moving office. You can easily do this online at the BizFile+ website. You will need your CorpPass account to request a Change in Company Information. Prepare change of address emails and discard old stationary with the outdated details. Your banks will also need to be informed of the move, as well as any suppliers or vendors.
